Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a studio? All sessions are done on location in your home, a favorite park, or in the city.

How would you describe your photography style? My style is very clean and crisp with a sprinkle of quirkiness, soulfulness and authenticity. I create relaxed and natural portraits that reflect who you are and the bond that you have with your loved ones.

Can you help me choose a location for the session? As part of the pre-session consultation I will ask you a couple of questions to get an idea of where your family feels comfortable/at home, what images in my portfolio that you are drawn to, the type of vibe you are looking for, if this is a special occasion etc. Based on your feedback I will offer suggestions for locations that would be awesome for your session.

What are your most popular products? Since storytelling is integral in how I approach a session, most of my clients invest in an album and a few large portraits for the wall.

What if my dog has a lot of energy, and hasn't passed obedience training yet? While it is easier to photograph a dog who knows basic commands it is not a prerequisite. My goal is to capture real portraits of pets being themselves. I recommend taking your dog for a walk or a run prior to the session to reduce any excess energy.

leash removal

What if my dog needs to stay on a leash? If you've looked at my portfolio it may come as a surprise that most of the pets that I photograph are on leash throughout their session. Leash removal is a complimentary service that I provide to my clients on ordered photos as safety is always priority number one. To make retouching easier, choose a thin or natural colored leash.

Can I be in the photos? Abso-freakin-lutely! Nothing makes me happier than when I get to capture the unique bond that you have with your furry companion.

What should I wear? When choosing what to wear I always recommend choosing complimentary colors. Wear something that makes you feel awesome and truly you. Dress as if you are going out on a dinner date with your best friends, because why not? It's the perfect excuse to make it a night out after your session.

Accessories for dogs

I'd like to find something for my fur-baby to wear. Any suggestions? If you would like to add an accessory, my philosophy is that a small accent goes a long way. I often recommend bow-ties, bandanas, pearls, and fabric flower accents to my clients. Start searching on Etsy and you'll wonder where the day went. For Pittsburgh-made products, pick up a fun and bright collar from Scout Dog Collars or a cupcake from Doggie Delights. Both are available at Petagogy.

How do I book you? To book a session, fill out this inquiry form. After an initial consultation I will send an electronic contract and an invoice for the full session fee to secure the date.

How can I pay you? I accept checks, cash, and credit cards.

What if I have to cancel? I understand that things come up unexpectedly. While the the session fee is non-refundable, if you contact me 24 hours before your scheduled session I am happy to apply it towards a future session.

What if the weather is bad? I always keep an eye on the weather a couple of days before the session. If Mother Nature decides to not cooperate we will work together to reschedule your session.

How long does it take until I get to see the pictures? Portraits are presented in your home 2-3 weeks after your session. Sometimes it takes longer depending on what time of the year it is. The day before the premiere I will send you an online slideshow. This gives you time to think about what you would like to do with the images before we get together.

How many pictures do you typically present? I believe in quality over quantity and will chat with you before our session to get an idea of if the goal is to have pictures to hang on your walls, or to create an album. This information will allow me to capture a story that fits for its purpose. In general I show 25-60 images.

I love them all. How do I select images? We will go through all of the images one by one using a software on my ipad. The images will be categorized in love, like, and not right now. Once the images are narrowed down we will decide which would look amazing on the wall. Among the remaining images we choose images for the the album.

Can I print the pictures on my own? If you purchase the high-res files you can print them anywhere you'd like. Since quality is very important to me I will provide a guide with vendors that I trust.

Can I post the pictures on Facebook? Yes. You will receive watermarked files sized for Facebook with the prints or products purchased. I only request that you do not crop out the watermark when shared online.

What is your equipment? I am a Nikon shooter and use a range of fixed focal length and zoom lenses. Sometimes I bring along my 35mm and/or Pentax medium-format film camera.

Do you have insurance? Yes. I have liability and equipment insurance.

Have additional questions? Email me and I will get back to you within 1-2 business days.
